So, you’ll see here that I have 557 keywords I currently rank for.

It also tells you like how many backlinks. So, I have almost 2,000 backlinks.

Backlinks are when other sites are linking from their site to my site.

And now these are very important because they’re like one-directional endorsements from other people’s websites back to yours.

I like to think of them as a restaurant review.

You have a fabulous dinner and then you go on to like Yelp or some other website and you endorse that restaurant and how great they are. Similar to a backlink is she spoke here.

She did this, we love that and then they linked from that their site back to yours. Which is gold for Google? They love those one-directional backlinks. So, I’ve got a nice backlink profile.

Now, we’re going to come down here. Look at this. So, you might think, “Well, why would anyone from internationally visit my website? Australia, Denmark, and Spain, in the Netherlands.

I guess I’m huge in the Netherlands. It’s only about this much search so maybe not really huge. It also tells you how many people are coming from mobile devices and others.

So, this can be very very telling about are you getting reach internationally and not just by US searches. So, I’m going to go in here and I’m going to click top organic keywords.

This is going to give me a master list of all the keywords that my website currently ranks for. I think a lot of people don’t even know these kinds of tools exist. And I love… I love the data because the power is in the data.

If you know how you’re ranking then you can hold the people who have said they’re doing SEO for you. You can really hold them to the task and make sure they’re actually doing what you’re paying them to do. So, let’s come down here. You’ll see it right now.

best paid keyword research tools

Let me walk you through what you’re seeing here. So, the first one is the exact keyword phrase findability. So, I ranked number 2 for the word findability. It’s 52 percent of my total traffic to my website.

So, people really love that phrase. And it gets 880searches per month. Now, remember, that’s one month’s worth of data and I’ll take that. But then you have the times that by 12 to get the full year which is I don’t math in my head but that’s a lot. So, 880 is a lot.

I’m very happy with that phrase. And you’ll see here that we’ve got the exact page that ranks for it which is my home page. Now, let’s take a look and see what other keywords currently rank for.

So, SEO coaching is the number two keyword that I rank for.I’m in the sixth position So, if you think about a search result page, there are ten positions on a search result page. Above the fold means, I haven’t scrolled down yet. It’s an old newspaper concept.

So, if I have a newspaper folded up, above the fold is the newspaper. Fold it down, that’s below the fold. Why they use a newspaper reference for an internet search? I have no idea but here we are.

So, ideally, I want to make sure that I’m above the fold. That would be one to five. And then 6 is just below the fold. Now, scary stats as 86% never scroll down they’re just they make a decision right at the top. And then 92% never go to page 2.

They say the best place to bury a dead body is on page 2 of Google. So, just keep that in mind that if you’re on page 2. Not really going to be helpful. We want to make sure that you’re on page one. So, you’ll see SEO coaching, I’m just slightly below the fold.

It gives me 7% of the total traffic to my website. And people search that phrase 320 times per month on average over 12 months. That’s a good keyword for me.

I’m ranking for SEO coaching, I could do that all day, every day. That’s my jam. So SEO coaching is definitely where I want to bring. Then we come down, of course, you’re going to always rank for your name.

But I love to see that actually Findability University is not the number one way people are searching for me. I want to have more people searching for what I do and what I know and not necessarily for my name. If they’re searching for my name, they already know me and that’s not helpful to Findability.

I want to make sure that when people are typing in keyword phrases that they’re finding me for that topic. Not necessarily just for my name. Now you’ll see the Candyland map.

get you e book for make money

You wonder probably like why does she break for that? Well, I have a post my article called Customer Journey map. So you might want to check that out because I talked all about how your website and your customer journey is similar to Candyland. Of course, I’m going to rank under my name.

I got a rank. So Heather let’s see Oprah. I was on Oprah a million years ago of course you don’t really ever stop ranking for Oprah keywords. So I’m still on there and then as you come down you’ll see all the other phrases I rank for.

So the SEM rush is absolutely fantastic for giving you keyword data. So let’stake a peek at allyougive.com and it’s So what you’re seeing in front of me right now is the website grader says how strong is your website? So we’re going to come here and I’m going to put it in my website.

Don’t have to give him your email address. Remember, they’re very good marketers and you’re going to hit get your answer. Now the cool thing about this tool is that it gives you a very high level, 10,000 feet overview of what your website looks like to a Google bot.

Now, I got 84 which is an excellent score. But there’s always room for improvement. It’s like these little tiny tweaks that you can make. So you’ll see here performance. I love a big slider and whatI’m not talking about a burger. I’m talking about a website slider.

So let me go to my website and I’ll show you what I mean by that. Now, some people argue whether these are a little dated, some of them say it’s dated. I love it. I saw you see here that I’ve got a nice big slider on my homepage.

So if I come down here, you’ll see that I have one slider then I have my second slider then I have my third slider and then I have my fourth slider, okay? Now, these are great. They’re very egocentric. I think a lot of business owners love these sliders because they can put these beautiful images on there.

However, when we go back to the website grader, you’ll see that I’m getting dinged on this. So performance is how fast is my website pulling? Is it slow like taken forever like molasses or is it super fast? Google is a nervous Nellie. Google does not want to wait for the data.

They want to make sure that that data is being pulled fast. Remember, that over 40% of all traffic coming to google is by mobile devices. So you have to remember your website is like this big not this big and Google wants that to pull fast.

I’m getting dinged on performance because I love my sliders. So I can always go in there and compress it. See if I can get it to pull quicker but the next one you’ll see is model responsive.

That means I can look at the website this big and I can push it and all the way down to a little tiny screen on a phone and it still looks great. It should beautifully collapse on itself.

Let me show you a trick to test your website and how it looks on a mobile device. So I’m going to come back to my screen and I’m going to go here. So when you go over to… I use the Internet… I use Chrome. Any browser will do this. Firefox, Safari.

You’re going to come over here to the very end of the browser and you’re going to get this little double arrow then you’re going to pull it over. Pull it over, pull it over.

Do you see how it’s collapsing on itself? Then I’m going to do is you’ll see here that as I go down, Oooh look, everything has neatly stacked on top of each other and this is so important because your website better look good on a mobile device.

There’s how people can come in and run their own website grader. So if you’d like to come in here, you can run a website grader right here. It comes from the SEM rush and it’ll go right into your inbox if you like just to kind of shortcut the whole process. It’s very important. You’ll see it here. semrush cost

Even my map, it had you know it looked like Candyland map right it goes all the way down. Well now that map has been compressed and it goes all the way down. So very important that you really take a hard look at what is my website looks like on a mobile device.

Google will absolutely penalize you if your website is not mobile irresponsive. The next one is SEO. Now, this is an incredibly big topic. Clearly that’s what my expertise is in. However, what it’s looking at is a keyword consistency on the homepage.

Finally, security. Now, I don’t want you to freak out if the security says zero out of ten, it means that every page in your website needs to be HTTPS. That means that every page on your website is secure. One of the reasons this is so important is because lots of people have WordPress websites. Maybe you have a WordPress website. WordPress is great.

Itis easy to use you can you know set it up you can add new themes all the time. It’s a great platform for a website. However, it has a lot of security issues. Do you know some of the number one ways that people save their passwords actually the word password? Don’t do that. Anything that’s available onFacebook.

Your birthday, your dog’s name, your husband’s name, your anniversary. These are not things you want to use for your passwords. Because people can easily come in and figure out what that password is. That’s a no-no.

We don’t want that. So, what we’re going to take a look at is make sure that HTTP is on every single page of your website. So, when Google comes they see that. Okay, I trust you. You have some nice security built-in. How do you get that fixed? Call your hosting provider.

Say, “I want to be on a dedicated IP and secured server.” Now, I’m sorry for all the geek talk. But it’s so important you understand this at a baseline level. A dedicated IP is like a cul-de-sac. You move into a cul-de-sac you got a bunch of neighbors on the Cul-de-sac.

Hosting companies cell storage or website hosting and something called an IP block. Like a cul-de-sac. You have a lot of other people that you’ resharing that block with. Now, one site could be a porn site.

Hopefully not. one could be banned by Google. You’re keeping company with other websites that have been penalized by Google. You don’t want that. Sharing is not caring here. So, what we need to do is make sure you’re on a dedicated IP. Meaning, just you on that IP address.

And then of course HTTPS. You set up your hosting on a secured server. Very important. Just give your hosting company a call. Say, “I want a dedicated IP and I want a secured host.” Very, very important for your credibility and Trust.

So, as you go down, I’ve just looked at this whole area right here. Performance, mobile, SEO, and security. Now, if you scroll down, you’re going to be able to get very specific feedback on how to make these better. So, what I would do is you can come up to this little share button right here.

Top right corner and you can share it on Twitter, you can share it on Facebook or LinkedIn if you want to. Or you can just come up… Here’s my little kind of hack. So, you don’t have to give me your email address and still get the report.

You come up here in chrome to file and print. Now, you’re able to get all the goodies from this report without ever giving him your email address. Woohoo! Try not to give out your email because trust me, especially with HubSpot.

They will never stop emailing you. No matter how many times you unsubscribe, they keep showing up in your inbox. So, remember. You are in control. You own the keys to your website Kingdom. Run SEMrush.com.Get the keywords you’re currently ranking for and then go to website grader. And see how you can continue to tune up your website.

These elements are so important to Google. And they should be important to you. Have you hired an SEO person and didn’t really know what they were doing or didn’t have a way to check their work? Well, I’m going to give you my book. Marketing Espionage.

Chapter10 is hired and fire a web developer and how to really understand what you’re getting for your SEO dollar. I have a free download of my book. Go to chapters 10 11 and 12 to really understand what are you buying and are you getting your money’s worth?

moz

All right, so, two SEO copywriters walk into a bar, pub, cocktail, grill, lounge, margarita, martini — you see where I’m going with this. Keywords are incredibly valuable for SEO, but only if we’re using them right. I’m Olivia with the Whole Whale, and today we’re going to go over how to max out your keyword research on moz.com.

If you read this article on Moz, you will already know what it is. It is a fantastic tool. It is great for helping you diagnose potential issues on your site’s SEO. It’s also helpful for finding out what’s working. And one of its key highlights is serving as a keyword research tool.

You may also remember that it is 75% off for nonprofits, and you can check them out at moz.com. So once we’ve signed into our Moz account, we can go to Moz Pro and keyword explorer. From there we can enter an exact keyword. We could also search for keywords based on a root domain, subdomain, or exact page.

We can make sure that we’re also searching in the right country. I’m going to use “nonprofit technology” because that is what we are all about at Whole Whale, and we see here a few numbers.

We have the monthly volume, we have the difficulty of landing on the first page of Google search results, we have the organic click-through rate for results related to this term, and priority. Priority is Moz’s score that amalgamates all of these other scores to allow you to determine which keywords to use first.

We can also see the current search engine result pages for this keyword, and we can go into keyword suggestions. This is where we can start to broaden our horizons and get a sense of what other keywords we could be writing around. We can also either include a mix of sources, which is the default or get really specific.

So let’s longtail keywords that are questions around “nonprofit technology.”Not a lot here, to be honest, that would be really on par with that keyword. You know, “what is TechSoup” — we love TechSoup, but let’s see what we can do with excluding our query terms to get broader ideas: no nonprofit, no technology.

What else do we have? Turns out here we also get a lot of branded keywords around our friends at NTEN and the nonprofit tech conference. Free software for nonprofit organizations — that might be a good one to look at down the line, but again I think we can get really specific.

We could look at related keywords, or we could look at broadly related topics. Let’s try only including this keyword, “nonprofit technology.” We see some ideas from here: nonprofit technology jobs, nonprofit technology news, network, grants.

I’m going to start selecting a bunch of these — this isn’t the time to get super picky based on the numbers, because what only we’re seeing here is the monthly search volume. So I’m going to go through and pick a bunch of keywords that could be related to a resource on nonprofit technology, or give me some ideas for branching out around other subtopics. and from there we’re going to click “Add to the keyword list.

” We can set up a keyword list for any number of projects or websites, and then open that up under “keyword lists.” And we can see we have ten keywords on here so far for the Whole Whale around nonprofit technology.

Sometimes it will be gathering metrics, and there we go –we have all of our metrics gathered for all of these keywords, and we can start to see more around volume priority, which is how I’m going to sort this. So I get a sense of what my MVPs are — so we can see up top, for instance, we see nonprofit technology grants, we see nonprofit accounting, newsletters does really well, but there’s no data.

SEMrush

This means that the priority score may be slightly skewed since it’s working with a null value for monthly volume, but we can see, for instance, very low in difficulty and a very high organic click-through rate. Again, this is a good time to use human intuition against the recommendations of a robot.

When you’re done with collecting keywords, you can also export this as a CSV to upload into Google Drive or to use in Excel to share internally, and prioritize keywords from there.

I’m Olivia with the Whole Whale, and if you want to know what to do with the keywords once you’ve found them, we have a whole course for that on allyougive.com.

You can even access it for80% off the normal rate using my referral link. If you have any other questions on SEO, leave them in the comments below, and you can also find more tips at allyougive.com.

Be sure to stick until the end of the article, because I’m going to go over the only paid option that you should explore if you’re going to pay anything at all.

By the end of this article, you’re going to have a primer on what keyword research is and the exact methods that you can start using today to start finding longtail keywords that help your business show up on page one of Google.

Over the years, I’ve led countless digital marketing efforts that generate millions in page views, thousands of leads, and millions in revenue. If you’re excited to learn these five easy keyword research methods.

I teach you the real-world of business skills to take you from zero to self-starter as you grow your business, get more customers, and hone your business acumen.

As usual, if you need to jump around to review anything throughout this article, feel free to use the following timestamps. Other than that, let’s go ahead and get started. The first method we’re going to jump into is the classic old school approach of Google with people also ask. This method is one of the tried and true, and it still works today and it’s a hundred percent free.

Let’s say we’re doing some SEO work for a landscaping company, and we want to create some content around gardening projects. In that case, what I’m going to do is I’m going to go into my computer and I’m going to search for a phrase like gardening projects.

And as I put that into Google, whatyou’re going to find is that Google is autocomplete is telling me a ton oflonger tail keywords that people often search related to gardening projects.

I see things such as gardeningprojects for kids, toddlers, preschoolers, for seniors and so on. And so without any other tools, Ialready have some potential great candidates for longtail keywords. Let’s go ahead and complete that search.

So when I complete the search for thegeneral term of gardening projects, and I scroll to the very bottom, I’m goingto be able to find some closely related keywords that people often search as well.

There’s things like gardening, projectideas for school, gardening projects from junk, DIY garden projects. So these are some really easy waysthat we can start to identify some great longtail keywords, as well ascontent ideas from these keywords.

Now, I’m going to show you a reallycool trick that you can use to find even more longtail keywords. Just go to your search bar. And at this point, what youwant to do is go to the very beginning and add an asterisk.

When you do that, you’re going to finda ton of related keywords to the term that you’ve already been looking for. So here you can see, when I add anasterisk in front, I see things like school gardening projects, grantsfor gardening projects, community gardening projects, and so on.

So there’s a ton of different things thatcome up that didn’t originally come up in the original dropdown, or even in thesearch related results at the bottom. This can be a second great wayfor you to maximize what you get out of Google autocomplete.

Let’s dig into a more specific examplefrom our autocomplete suggestions. Let’s say, for example, we want to diginto gardening projects for seniors. I’m going to select that.

And when I look into the resultsfor this phrase, what I’m going to see at the bottom is probably somelongtail keywords that are very closely related to this longtailof gardening projects for seniors.

And if I scroll down, I’m going to find aton of related things, such as therapeutic gardening for seniors, adaptive gardeningfor seniors, gardening activities, gardening made easy for seniors.

These are all potential great ideasthat we can take on because people are looking for it and we can potentiallymake some valuable content that helps educate people on these topics.

If we want to take it a step further, all we need to do is just click one of these results and we can use thatsame process to find similarly related, longtail keywords to that phrase. So for example, I could just look intotherapeutic gardening for seniors.

Scroll down. And what’s going to come up are evenmore potential longtail keywords. So we have horticultural therapy forseniors, gardening activities for seniors, garden therapy for dementia and so on. So there’s a ton of different keywordsthat are related to this phrase.

So as we peel more and more layersdown the onion, in terms of the long tail keywords, we can start to groupthese keywords together and think about how these potential longtails canall relate to one another and be made into an evergreen piece of content.

Another helpful area of Google searchis to check out the people also ask section, this is going to give yousome other longtails that may not have been identified directly byGoogle, but it’s closely tied to the phrase that you’re looking at.

So in this particular example, as we lookat therapeutic gardening for seniors, we have things like gardening, helpingwith anxiety, benefits of a garden. These are the sorts of thingsthat would make for potentially great sub-headers in a piece ofcontent marketing that you create.

All you need to do if you want moresuggestions from people also ask is to click this accordion to expand andcollapse, and it’ll keep feeding more and more of these people also ask responses.

If you found that tip of adding anasterisk before your search helpful, The next step we need to do is weneed to identify how much volume as well as the competition of theseparticular long tail keywords.

The sweet spot for a great longtail keyword is something that gets a ton of great searches, butalso has a low competition score. So to do that, we’re goingto need to use another tool.

For the sake of this article and thespirit of providing free resources, I’m going to go over really quicklyfour sites that you can use to help with discovering what the searchvolume is for each of these phrases. The first one is Surfer SEO. It has a free Chrome extensionthat you can install and it’ll give you some estimates for volume.

Note, in my past experience of testingthis out because I was considering it as an alternative to Keywords Everywhere. It wasn’t always super accurate in termsof the volume that it was giving me.

The next one is UberSuggest. All you need to do is log in withyour Google account in order to check out things like the volume and thecompetition scores for keywords.

That being said, I personally don’tuse it just because I don’t really like the permissions that you haveto give away to your analytics in order to use the platform.

But it is a totally free platform for now. The third one I want to go over is Searchvolume.io. All you need to do here is you need to start creating your shortlist of keywords and then paste them in here and it will output the estimated volume based on what their database says. And then the last option isLinkGraph search volume tool.

It is very similar to Searchvolume.io. So with these four resources, youcan kind of alternate between them and compare what each one says aboutthe long tails you’re looking at. This way you can kind of get a bettersense of the average and overall nature of how good this particular keyword might be.

I like to look for keywordsthat are between a hundred and monthly volume to a thousand. For the sake of this example ongardening projects for seniors, I’m going to use LinkGraph’stool as well as Searchvolume.io. So I’ve gone ahead and copied some ofthe long tails related to gardening projects for seniors, and I’m notgoing to put them into Searchvolume.io.

And then what I see here is thattwo of them came out as potentially having some monthly searches. There’s about 20 estimated forbenefits and gardening for seniors, as well as 74 gardening activities.

That seems a little low for allthe ones that I have already copied in terms of the long tails. So now I’m going to double checkthat against the LinkGraph tool. So as I look into LinkGraph here, I’mgoing to paste that same list and as I scroll down, I start to see somedifferent results in terms of what the average monthly searches are.

So as you can see here, this iswhy I am giving you four different tools is because everyone has theirown way of estimating traffic. And so you kind of want to look aroundand see what everyone says, and then take an average when you’re trying tofigure out which long tails to go after.

My sweet spot that I like to startwith with a space where I don’t have a ton of authority is between ahundred to a thousand monthly volume. And that’s because that’s substantialenough in which if I’m creating 20 to 25 content pieces related to the keywordresearch that I’m doing, I’m going to build a ton of organic traffic that way.

Also, I like to go after phrasesthat are between a low and medium competitive score, that will varybased off the platform you’re using as to whether or not they give thatin a percentage or as a low, medium high, as you can see in this case.

But generally it’s something below 50%. So as I go through these results, I’mstarting to see that some potentially good longtails to target could begarden games for adults, gardening activities is a good one as well.

And as I’m starting to look deeperand deeper here, I’m noticing that in gardening activities for seniorsis potentially not as great of a longtail as I thought it might be. So this would be an example where maybeI have to go back to the drawing board in the beginning of this method, in whichI just searched for gardening products.

And I go through another set of longtailsto try to figure out what could be a better piece of content to create. The other thing that I noticed isthat a related phrase like gardening made easy for seniors is actuallygetting a decent amount of volume. In fact, it’s estimatedto be around 170 a month.

So if I were to create that gardeningproducts for seniors posts and also couple it with something related togardening made easy for seniors, if I were to actually win for that placement,I’m going after potentially upwards of 190 monthly traffic, as opposed to justthat 20, that was there for the estimate for gardening projects for seniors.

So, what you can start to see is that ifI’m building some of these sub-headers to be the other related phrases, tothe longtail that I was originally looking for, I can start to stackthese monthly volumes together and create a meaningful piece, even thoughthe longtail for gardening therapy for depression, for example,

onlygets an estimated 20 monthly visits. If it’s coupled in a post with nine otherheaders that also has 20 other visits, then we have potentially 200 monthlysearches,

which then meets the criteria. So the key takeaway here is that youalways want to be thinking about how you can stack the different longtailsthat you are seeing in the results into an awesome epic piece of content, because that’ll increase your chances that your content gets seen andalso increase your organic traffic.

The second easy keyword research methodI want to show you is souffley the reason why I like Soovle is because it takesthe whole idea of looking at similar related searches to a whole nother level. And I’ll show you what I mean.

When I pull up the site, it’s aquick way for me to look at things beyond just Google’s autocomplete. Let’s take, for example, theexample that we’ve been using for gardening projects for seniors. As you can see as I input the phrase, gardening products for seniors, I’m starting to get a ton of differentrelated keywords that may not have shown up on Google, but show up on these othersites like Bing, Yahoo or allyougive.com.

Now, the results and allyougive.com isreally not that applicable obviously. But the ones in being could potentiallyidentify a few things that Google didn’t pick up, for example, gardeningprojects for senior citizens. I don’t think that we saw that earlier. So I could potentially add this phraseto my existing list in Searchvolume.

io or LinkGraph’s tool, whichever I’musing to find the estimated volume. So I’m going to go ahead and do that. I’m actually going to addgardening projects for senior citizens into my LinkGraph list. So, what I’m doing is I’m essentiallyusing Soovle to compliment my original Google search to start to find even morerelated longtails that potentially weren’t picked up by Google the first time.

The other thing I can do is I can takea step back and start again with that general phrase of gardening projects. And if I were to do that, I’m going tosee a ton more general results because I haven’t gone as detailed as thephrase gardening projects for seniors. So Soovle is a great way that you cancompliment the first method to find potential stragglers that you weren’table to find using Google autocomplete.

The next easy keyword messageI want to show you is LSIGraph. And LSI stands forLatent Semantic Indexing. I have a article on that topic if youwant to go more in depth on that, but pretty much what it standsfor is closely related keywords to the general phrase starting with.

So if I go to the LSIGraph, I’mgoing to be able to search for a few different queries that I might beinterested in and see all the potential results in both search volume, aswell as difficulty at the same time. The only downside is thattheir free account restricts you to three searches per day. So you’re going to have to bethoughtful as to when you use this tool.

What I’m going to do here isI’m going to just search for the general phrase of gardening projectsagain, just so I can see some related things to that phrase here. All right. So as you can see here, here arethe results for gardening projects.

There’s a ton I canactually sort by volume. I can also sort by competition percentage. This is what I mean, in terms ofsome tools, give you a percentage for the competition scores. As I’m going through this list, I’mseeing some potential great ideas that fall into that sweet spot of a hundred toa thousand volume with low competition.

But LSIGraph is actually reportinga ton of super high competition. So like I said before, what you mightwant to do is check against all the other free keyword research toolsto see what their competitive scores say, just to make sure that it’s notnecessarily a potential false positive.

But what I’m seeing here is that a keywordphrase like school garden ideas could be a potentially great piece of content tocreate since it gets 210 monthly searches and it has a really low competition score. I’m also seeing potentialopportunities in DIY garden crass.

I know it’s below the hundredminimum, but if it were coupled as a subheader in a broader post, it couldpotentially be something really good. So as you can see here, LSIGraphwill give you a breakdown of some of the commonly related keywords tothe phrase that you’re looking for.

You’re going to want to use thistool in combination with the other methods I’ve shown you so that youcan validate what you’ve already been finding as to whether or not it isa legitimate keyword opportunity. The fourth method for easy keywordresearch is super easy to use.

It’s called Keyword Sheeter, and prettymuch what you’re gonna do is you’re going to start with your general phrase andit’s going to output all the potential longtails that relate to your keyword.

So I’m going to look for something likegardening projects again, and from here, I’m just going to click to start outputting some results and you can see that it’s going to start running all thepotential combinations and permutations of longtails related to this phrase. For the sake of time here,I’m going to stop this list.

I’m just going to copy over this list onceI’ve gone ahead and put that list from keyword cheater, into LinkGraph’s tool. I will sift through the results andquickly try to look for anything that falls into my criteria.

And as I’m going through this superquickly, I’m honestly not seeing anything that might be promising. The closest ones would potentially besomething like gardening products for kids, which gets 210 monthly searches. It is ranked as a highcompetitive phrase though.

So what I’d want to do is I want tovalidate that by potentially looking for that phrase with another keywordtool, to see what that tool tells me in terms of the competition. To be honest, sometimes thesefree tools are completely whack in terms of their competition scores. And I can actually rank quite easilyfor gardening projects for kids.

So I’d have to do a little bit more duediligence, but from this, you can see that Keyword Sheeters are really quickway for you to put a ton of keywords at once and start isolating for whichones are potentially good opportunities. Now that we’ve gone ahead andgone over four methods that you can do keyword research for free.

I want to show you the differencethat using paid tools can potentially have in your keyword research. This is my favorite method andit’s my preferred method, mainly because it saves me a ton of time. And so that is by using a combination ofSEMRush along with Keywords Everywhere.

Something that you need to understandis that SEMRush is a pricey SEO tool. It’s $99 a month fortheir lowest tier plan. They do have a free trial though, And also Keywords Everywhere is going tobe about $10 for their lowest credit plan.

But that gives you a hundred thousandcredits, which is a ton of keywords. I reload my account maybeonce every nine months or so. What I’m going to do is I’m going tojump into SEMRush and I’m going to search for the phrase gardening projectsfor seniors and see what it tells me.

When I do that, I get this result. You can see that it prettymuch does everything that I was doing before, all in one step. I just had to put in gardening projectsfor seniors and the keyword overview tool.

moz vs semrush vs ahrefs

And what I’m seeing is that it getsabout 50 and monthly volume, keyword difficulties on the harder end. And the global volume isprobably closer to a hundred versus the US 50 monthly volume. All right. So what I’m going to do is I’m going toclick related keywords or this phrase on gardening products for seniors.

And what I’m going to get is I’m going toget a ton of different related keywords. I’m going to go more in depth inthe keyword magic tool and a follow read all article, but pretty much what youcan see here is that I can quickly sort by volume, by competition, bykeyword difficulty, all in one place.

So what I can do is I can do everythingI was doing before in the earlier methods, but in half the time. So I can just put it in a volume of ahundred to a thousand, keyword difficulty percentage up to 80% like I said. I can even add a word count limit. In terms of a minimum and amaximum, I’m going to output that.

And here you can see just like that. I have filtered through to gardencrafts activities for older adults, gardening for seniors, garden craftideas, gardening made easy for seniors. There’s that keyword again. DIY garden crafts.

That’s another one that we identifiedearlier with those free tools and gardening tools for seniors. Something I hope you’re seeingthough, is that what we’re getting from SEMRush is very comparable towhat we found in the free tools. The only difference is how fastI was able to do it with SEMRush. And so you can totally get bywith just free tools and beat up people that are using paid tools.

The main benefit of the paidtools is saving you a ton of time in your research process. The next tool I want to showyou is Keywords Everywhere. So what I’m going to do is I’mgoing to activate it in my browser.

And then what I’m going to do isI’m going to go ahead and search the phrase gardening products for seniors. What you’ll see is that KeywordsEverywhere will pretty much output all the estimated volumes as well ascompetition scores for me at once. So here you can see that they estimatethat gardening products for seniors only gets 10 monthly searches. The competition is super low though. It’s point 18.

And then on the right hand side here, you can see some related keywords. That are often tied to this phrase. So here I can quickly start tosee some other longtails that are potentially better candidates. I already have a setting in my KeywordsEverywhere that pretty much gives me the criteria I like to look for.

So as you can see here,it’s highlighting it for me. That dementia garden is potentiallya better, longtail to go after, but this is a really good way forme to again, look at things at an aggregate level super quickly. Notice how I don’t have to copy a listinto Searchvolume.

io or LinkGraph’s tool. I pretty much get it all in one place. And that’s why like Keywords Everywhere. It’s so cheap that I thinkit’s totally worth it. I’ve tried free tools like SurferSEO Chrome extension, and I just don’t find it to be as helpful oreasy to use as keywords everywhere.

The other thing is what you’ll noticeis that if I want to find the related keywords for these related keywords, all I have to do is just click it and it’s going to output the resultsfor the phrase that I just clicked as well as more related keywords.

So what I like to do is this,I essentially like to find what are some of the potentiallongtails they’re good candidates. I validate that against SEMRush’skeyword magic tool, along with SEMRush’s keyword overview tools. And when I get as a result are somereally great longtail keywords that I’ve been positioned, content pieces around.

So, if you’re going to pay for any SEOtools for keyword research, I recommend SEMRush and Keywords Everywhere. If you want to try a free trial ofSEMRush. The first one is that I want you toalways be thinking about how to pack the biggest punch with a single post. Think about how you can connectthem into a single evergreen post. It’ll save you a ton of time and alsoget the biggest impact for each content marketing piece you put out there.

The second thing I want you toremember is that paid tools are completely optional when it comesto doing easy keyword research. As you saw, in my example, with SEMRush,we got a lot of the same results with the free tools that we did with SEMRush. The biggest difference was just theamount of time we spent in order to find the sorts of things like searchvolume, as well as the competition score.

So don’t feel like you’re going to belimited if you’re only using free tools. In fact, I recommend that you startout with free tools and then over time as you build up your confidence, aswell as your competence in keyword research, try out the paid tools andsee how much further it takes you. That’s the appropriate time foryou to be paying for SEO tools.
